We’ve been talking for ages about the possibility of putting on a two-day seminar in Vancouver, and it’s finally going to happen! I saw that Animation Mentor sent out the official invitation today, so I wanted to take this chance to just let you all know how excited I am about it!

There have been a lot of late nights at the Kelly House putting together a talk that will be mostly geared toward advanced animation ideas but still be accessible and beneficial to students as well. I’m really happy with how it’s coming together, and we will have a lot of fun stuff to dig into! Without giving too much away, I’ll be doing some in-depth breakdowns of blocking and shot-walkthroughs, and talking a lot about dialogue and lip sync, and acting in general.

What I’m most excited about, though, is the chance to share some of the stuff I’ve put together on animal and creature animation, combat, as well as a beefier version of the talk I gave this year at SIGGRAPH on eyes & blinks. I’ll also be critiquing a few demo reels during the class for any brave souls willing to put themselves on the chopping block! Don’t worry, I’ll be doing the same thing with my own work, and talking you through my own favorite shots as well as the worst and most embarrassing I’ve done.

Anyway — I’ve never been to Vancouver, and am really excited to get up there! There will also be a gathering for the enrolled students on that Saturday night, so hopefully I’ll get to meet a lot of you there and spend some time hanging out.
