What Joel’s Students are Saying
Enthusiastic, Empathetic, and Gentle in His Critiques
Joel was great: enthusiastic, empathetic, gentle in his critiques but very insightful and very helpful in the points he made. This being my first class and first ever animation course, I was definitely nervous about it all, and Joel helped immensely to ease me into the process and workflow. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better first mentor.
Cares About His Students' Personal Development
The demos give a great overview of our assignments. The eCritiques are great, Joel takes a lot of time breaking down the assignment with visual aids to make his critiques easy to follow and understand. Compliments and criticisms are well balanced. I can tell he cares a lot about his students’ personal development.
Takes Extra Time to Answer Questions Each Class
I like that his criticism is very constructive, and not antagonistic in the slightest. He takes extra time to answer questions each class, and is clear and honest when someone isn’t known, he will find out and either message the class or mention it in the following class.
Impressed by the Personal Attention I'm Getting
So far, awesome. I really appreciate the detailed video feedback on my first two assignments. I’ve taken a lot of online courses in the past and I’m quite impressed by the personal attention I’m getting here. Thanks!
Enthusiastic and Committed
Joel was a phenomenal mentor, he was not only enthusiastic but committed to making sure that all information and critiques were given in an excellent manner.
The Critiques Were Thorough and Informative
Joel has been an excellent mentor, especially for a newbie like me to both Maya and AM. His courses were easy to follow and the eCritiques he provided were thorough and informative. He was also a very animated personality which I believe engaged that class even more. I had fun and all I would tell Joel is to keep doing what you’re doing.
Incredibly Supportive and Inspiring
Joel was incredibly supportive and inspiring as my first mentor at AM. His critiques were relevant and helpful. The specificity of his critiques scaled with the skill shown in my assignments: for submissions where I lacked skill and confidence, Joel was able to give me constructive criticism to help me improve; and for assignments where I believe I showed exceptional skill, he was able to push me even further by pointing out more minute details that could use improvement.
Took Extra Time if Needed to Explain
I appreciate a lot that Joel took extra time if needed to explain and solve doubts. It was also very interesting to listen about his experience and inspiration in the animation subject.
