What John’s Students are Saying
Very Encouraging and Detailed
His critiques are always very encouraging and detailed, sometimes showing me things that I didn’t know needed to be fixed. I’m always so excited to get one and see how to improve my shots further. During class, he also checks in with everyone to see how they are doing, which I like. I end up learning from my other classmates, and it also leads me to talk in front of the class as well. I usually wouldn’t talk at all unless I had a question. He’s an amazing mentor!
Always Willing to Take His Time to Help
John was a lot of help in bringing my animation more to life then where I started. He took the time to show us how to look at poses and reference and dissect them to understand the physics and aesthetics. John was always willing to take his time to help out with any issues that we were having. The way he talked just seemed to click really well with me.
Excellent and Sensitive Feedback
John gives excellent and sensitive feedback. He has a very experienced eye, and explains (and illustrates) his notes clearly. He often specifies whether a note is creative or technical, and encourages us to explore the brief as creatively as we like. Despite his recent personal loss, he completed our assignment feedback and Q&As as normal. I’ve learned a lot from John, and he’s been an excellent mentor.
Very Open to Questions
John makes the extra effort of reviewing us on Thursdays so as to give us a bigger, better hand with our assignments. He’s very open to questions and willing to let us ask him doubts out of his Q&A. He makes me feel very comfortable in class and he’s always willing to help, always willing to go the extra mile, giving us tips and pushing us towards what we need to improve as much as he can. I think he’s great!
Really Motivated Me to Try Harder
John is a tough grader and I believe that is because he wants the students to meet the standards of the industry. When I got a lower score than I would have liked, it was because John sees my work and knows that level won’t fly so I need to get better. He really motivated me to try harder and put more effort into my assignments. I think that push has made me better as an animator and a student.
Cared About My Well Being
John provided valuable feedback during Q&A’s. It was nice that before he began the Q&A he’d ask how everyone was doing individually and if anyone had concerns he addressed them. That courtesy put me in a more confident state of mind, knowing that my mentor cared about my well being. Absolutely loved the mid-week critiques he gave to help us stay on the right track. A big thank you to John!
Enthusiastic on Passing Down His Knowledge
John is an expert in the field who is extremely enthusiastic on passing down his knowledge to the students. Moreover, he is a kind person checking with everyone on their weekly progress to just simply ask how life is going for everyone.
Very Helpful with Critiques
I really like his style and approach to his work. He’s very helpful with critiques. I also really enjoy the lessons, he makes it interesting and answers questions and tries to show examples to help answer the question. I’m more of a visual person, so to me, it is extremely helpful.
